The purpose is to diet is to reduce the iodine reserves in the body, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of radioactive iodine. This diet usually lasts two weeks.

Foods that you can use:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables – washed well, except for large amounts of spinach and broccoli (vegetables can be prepared with vegetable oil and iodized salt).
  • Homemade bread and pastry (no iodized salt, milk, butter, margarine, egg yolks)
  • Vegetable oil.
  • Sugar, honey, clear fruit juices.
  • Pasta (no eggs).
  • Canned fruit (peaches, pears and pineapples).
  • Coffee and tea (without the addition of milk , cream).
  • eggs (egg white).
  • Fresh meat.

Foods to avoid:

  • iodized salt – food or feed additives that contain a lot of salt ( eg , seasoning).
  •  Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, margarine, sour and sweet cream, sour cream for cooking, ice cream).
  •  Dried and salted meat ( bacon, ham , pork scratching, sausages, meat that is prepared for frying or barbecue).
  • Food from the sea (fish, shellfish, crabs, squid, cuttlefish, octopus, seaweed, tablets containing seaweed and grass).
  • Chocolate, sweets, liqueurs, cocktails.
  • Dried fruit, candied fruit and canned vegetables.
  • eggs (yolk).
  • Multivitamin and multi mineral products – all of which contain iodine.
  • Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, margarine, sour and sweet cream, sour cream for cooking, ice cream).
