Natural remedies for a toothache pain is very simply available with normal staples we usually have on our kitchen shelves.

Clove Oil

The top most remedy suggested even by our doctors is clove oil. It is recommended to have clove oil a must in homes when you are having children especially. Because children’s teeth are usually exposed to sweet and sugary items a lot so their chance of getting a toothache is more.

Clove oil is traditional medicine for numbing the nerves, the primary component is eugenol, Take 2 drops of clove oil in a cotton ball and place it in against the paining tooth. This will relieve your pain easily. You can also use clove itself. By chewing a glove and keeping it against the teeth will also work.

Saltwater Mouthwash

A teaspoon of salt dissolved in a cup of boiling water makes a pain-killing mouthwash, which will clean away irritating remains and help reduce swelling. Swish it around for about 30 seconds before spitting it out. Saltwater cleanses the area around the tooth and draws out some of the fluid that causes swelling. Repeat this treatment as often as needed.


Garlic has the properties of anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. So it can give immense relief from the pain. Take a 2-3 garlic clove and crush them. Mix some salt with it, apply in the paining area. This will get you a quick relief.


Onion’s antibacterial property helps you eliminate out the infection from your gums and teeth. Chew a piece of onion and keep it against the paining area. If you are not able to chew just crush it and place it there.

Ginger and Cayenne paste

Mix equal parts of these ginger and cayenne, add some water to it. Take a small ball of it and place it in the area of pain using cotton. Hold as much as you can tolerate since cayenne will have a burning effect in your mouth.

Ice it

Place ice cubes in a small piece of cloth and place it in the area of pain, which gives you a numbness over the nerves. The cold signals always overcome the pain signals before reaching the brain.

Wash it with myrrh

You can also rinse with a tincture of myrrh. The astringent effects help with inflammation, and myrrh offers the added benefit of killing bacteria. Simmer 1 teaspoon of powdered myrrh in 2 cups water for 30 minutes. Strain and let cool. Rinse with 1 teaspoon of the solution in a half-cup water five to six times a day.
